Show #9. not want me to sell ny land. He »ants me to have my land, although soma can may oome along and push me away; still I will stay here. I have not sold any land beoause I heard what Washington told me. Th9re are other young men growing up who will have thi3 land after I die. I am telling you the facts that I have heard from the Pres- -"• idsnt. What you have said about selling this land makes me think that maybe you talk two ways. I think maybe you have been sent out here to sell the Indians' land. That is the reason the White River Indians are kinder afraid of you, and that is the reason they have talked as they ha-ze. I don't want you to steal anything from me, because I know something about th9 President myself. That is the reason, my friend, that I hav9 talked to you about going to Wash- *$) ington. I tall you that the Indians need implements and horses to work with; that is what we want to go to Washington for,- ws want to see the President, personally, about these things. The President ha3 sent you out here to look after the Indians' land and to see arhat kind of improvements they have made on their lands. He has sent someone out here because he is a good man, and when he ' > 39nd3 a man here W9 are glad to see him. Washington has sent you out hare for tha benefit.of the Indians, and not to tell the Indians to sell their land, for I have heard Washington, himself, say not to sell the Indians' land. |
