DAVIS, SUPERVISOR: .'if- I have held.oounoils with all tha Indiana,- with the Uintah end White Riv9r Indians here and with tha Uncompahgre Indians at Ouray; but the White River Indians wanted to oounoil about go- . ing to Washington, so I told thera that I would give them a day so • that they oould tali about going to Washington. And now they have oome together for that purpose. The Commissioner went through here this last fall and he aaw 3ome of their oountry, and when he got baok to Washington he sent for me and told me he wanted me to oome out here. He did not say anything about a_j of tha Indians going to Washington, but now if the White River Indians want to talk about that to-day, they oan tell me why they want to go to Washington. I do not promise th9m that they oan go to Washington, but if they want me to send a letter telling the Commissioner why they want to go to Washington, I will send it. In that letter they should simply tell what they want to tali about when they get there. I don't want them to go baoi and tell me about all the old things in the past,- about what this man told them and that man told them. All that is neoessary, is for them to tell me what they want to go there for and what they want to tali about after they get there. Then the Commissioner will tell them whather or not they can oome.
