Show Page 57<br><br>December llth. Were entertained in the home of Rev. C. M. Parks for two weeks, he being the first Presbyterian minister in the valley. I was located by him at Hyrum, where Miss Carrie Nutting had opened the field by a mission school one month or so before as a pioneer. Wellsville and Millville also were given into my charge. Miss Kate E. Best taught school at the former and Miss J. N. Hall at the latter, and had been on the field a month or more. I preached the first sermon at Hyrum on Christmas day, to an audience of fourteen. The following summer the Board erected one Garfield Memorial Chapel in each town, at a cost respectively of $1100 to $1400. For many years preaching was conduced in English, Swedish and Danish; now mostly in English and Swedish. The first years at the rate of twelve sermons per month and eight exhortations and prayer-meetings per month.
