Show University of Utah Library Bulletin Page 3 October 9, 1967 and will in the long run enable the Library to give better and more efficient cata-loging service at much lower costs„ The obvious thing to remember at this point is that the newest Library acqui-sitions are shelved according to the L. C„ system and the books acquired before September, 1966, are according to the Dewey Decimal system. The Public Services Library staff will be happy to help anyone on an individual or group basis to understand and find materials classed in either of the two systems. Perhaps this circumstance provides an opportunity to emphasize that the profes-sional library staff members are willing and eager to address class meetings or other student groups, either in the classroom or in one of the libraries, on the resources and use of libraries. Arrangements may be made for orientation leetures through the Office of the Associate Director for Public Services. Policy for Assignment of Faculty Studies In New Library and Learning Center Faculty members who have research projeets in process and who need ready access to library materials to accomplish their research will be happy to learn of the one hundred and sixty-two faculty studies provided in the new Library. Already, some applications have been received. Special application forms are available in the Office of the Associate Director for Public Services, Studies will be assigned by the Associate Director for Public Services with the advice of a committee of three appointed from the membership of the Library Council. Studies will be assigned for specific periods not to exceed one quarter. Applications for shorter periods are in order and some studies will be reserved for short-time useQ These studies are for research and scholarship only, and are not to be used as offices or conference rooms. They will not be transferable and to insure privacy, library personnel will not divulge information about study assignments. A study holder may apply for a renewal at the end of his assigned period, but he will have no priority over other applicants, The full policy statement for the administration of faculty studies is available at the circulation desk of the George Thomas Library and may be had on request. This statement was developed by the Library Council and was derived from a study of the policies for assignment and administration of faculty studies of the eighty member libraries of the Association of Research Libraries. Technical Services Changes Anticipating the Move On July 1, 1967, the Bibliographic Section of the Order Department was redesig-nated the Bibliographic Department. The new Department, under the direction of Miss Susan Huxtable, has assumed responsibility for the bibliographic verification of all requests to order materials. To expedite processing of orders, the Faculty Library Representative will now send all requests directly to the Bibliography Department. Requests for materials already held in the Libraries' collections will be returned to the |
