David Laird, Jr., or to the Seriáis Order Department, under the direction of Mrs. Jeanne Chapin£ (A new Seriáis Order Department Head will be appointed when Mrs, Jeanne Chapin moves to the Life Sciences Reference,) The newly created Seriáis Order Department is a combination of the Periodicals Department and the Order Section of the Documents Department. The new Department will assume responsibility for the placement of all periodicals and documents orders and the collections now housed in these Departments will be distributed among the subject collections in the new Library building» The subscription records of the Seriáis Order Department have been automated. The annual subscription list and its supplements are now produced on the Univac 1108 at the Computer Center. A public versión of this list with holdings will soon be available. In January a revised edition will appear listing all seriáis held by the University Libraries with holdings and locations. A study is now under way to automate the Monographs Order Department. Implemen-tation is expected within the next 12 to 15 monthsc One of the by-products of the system will be an IBM book card which can be used in an automated circulation system. The new student and staff identification cards have also been designed with automation of the Librarles' circulation system in mind. It is hoped that the automated circulation system can be executed within the next two years. Responsibility for binding has been brought together under Miss Lily Fink, The new Binding Department will not only prepare books for the commercial binderies, but will also make temporary repairs, bind pamphlets, and mount reproductions.
