Abstract |
The Institute of Gas Technology's (IGT) Applied Combustion Research Group conducts a wide variety of research programs for both Government and industry in one of the most fully equipped furnace research facilities in the world. These programs have included experimental programs to evaluate burner performance characteristics, evaluate combustion characteristics of various fuels, investigate pollutant formation, and develop improved equipment designs. Three pilot-scale furnaces, a small test furnace, and a small fluidized-bed furnace are available for these experimental programs. A full range of sampling probes and instruments is available to fully characterize the flame, determine flue-gas emissions, and evaluate heat-transfer characteristics. The fuel systems can fire the furnace with natural gas, light and heavy oil, pulverized fuels, hydrogen, and low- or medium-Btu gases (CO, H2, N2, CO2, H2O, and other gases). |
