Show Liberal Education Relevance for Today . . . Richness for Tomorrow . . . The aim of a Liberal Education is to prepare students to think freely, creatively and seriously about the problems of our time. At the University of Utah, this aim is met by a series of required courses designed to span broad areas of knowledge and equip students with diverse ways of looking at the world. This year's University Professors, Barbara Lindsay, Languages, and Gale Dick, Physics, were selected for excellence in teaching and scholarship. Together they taught a special Liberal Education course which explored the intertwining of major revolutions in scientific and philosophical thought from the times of Sir Issac Newton to Albert Einstein. Through work in this course, over 200 students were given the opportunity to front new ideas, question prior assumptions and understand the roots of our present society and individual value systems. 111 University Professor, 1979-80, Barbara Lindsay in dialogue with students.
