Show College of Fine Arts The College of Fine Arts is composed of five departments - art, ballet, modern dance, music, and theater - plus the Utah Museum of Fine Arts. Departments of Art and Music date back to the 1880's. The College was organized in 1947 and is set up to provide professional training in the arts. Actually, the College has three commitments: to provide the highest quality professional education for creative and performing artists, scholars, and teachers in the arts; to offer all University students a program of general, liberal education in the arts that leads to an appreciation of aesthetic values; and to play a major role in the cultural life of the University, the community, and the region through an extensive program of performances, lectures and exhibitions. To carry out these commitments, the College has developed an active faculty which is distinguished by its excellence. All faculty members are directly involved in creative and performing work in their fields, combining this professional activity with a serious dedication to teaching. The student who enters the College of Fine Arts should also have a firm commitment to the art of his choice and will necessarily need natural creative abilities, as well as strong motivation, in order to pursue a professional program successfully. The departments which make up the College of Fine Arts are deeply involved in contemporary art trends and actively promote the performance and exhibition of contemporary works. At the same time, they present students with a wealth of fundamental training and historical background in the arts. Curriculum and programs are continually reassessed to assure their vitality.
