Show Nor any doubt as to their right to recover for approximately 15,000 acres of coal lands included within these lands set apart as a Porest Reserve. If there be a recovery for such coal lands the amount thereof, it is conceded should be deducted from ths amount recovered for the 1,010,000 acres of Porest Reserve lands. The evidence will show the setting apart of a few hundred acres of Indian lands ofor townsite purposes and for reservoir sites for which the Indians will have a claim amounting to a few thousand dollars based on a price of $1*25 per acre fort the lands so taken. As ta the claira of the government for expenditures for irrigation works monti ;ned in the report there may ba some controarersy, If the government presents such claim it will be for the Court of Claims to decide. These Indians according to our information are in needy circumstances. The settlement of their Just Claims against the Government has been long delayed. Tne claim that "the proposed legislation is in conflict with the financial program of the Prvesident"should no longer be available and we earnestly hope that the way may be ckar9d for a speedy adjudication of the rights of these Indians and the payment to them, of what is found justly due. Capias of 3.615 and H. P. 2122 arc presented herewith, although it is supposed that copies will come to you in due course from the Committees. Respectfully submitted, yfyyffAiOFy OAF4 (y^yFy0Y f C" |
