Show The justice of these claims has been freely admitted by tha Indian Office. The House Committe Roport it will be noted, states as follows; " The facts set cut in the report R the Secretary of ths Interior would seem to justify the action of the committee though his recommendation is adverse." S. 2482 reported favorably by Senator Prazier, which was the subject of tho Secretary's repart was exactly tha same as S. P. 16985. And it si apparent that the reason the Secretary was unable to recommend the favorable consideration of the Bill was the adverse report of the Director of the Bureau of the Budget to the effect " that the proposed legislation is in conflict with tha financial program of the President". There was no other reason,but in face of the fact that, the Bursau of the Budget reported adversly, tke. bill passed both Houses without a dissenting vote. Since the new bills 3. 615 and H. P. 2121} omit the Southern Utes and confine tha request for ralief to the three Northern bands the Uintah Uncompaghre and White Biver Bands the issues are very much simplified. This is apparent from the House Committer? P.eport- .;. - which recites that the Committee " has been unable to determine tha approximate amount the Southern Utes will claim in damages".
