CO / ro To the Honorable Commissioner of Indian Affairs; In pursuance of your suggestion made when the subject of this bill was presented to you a few days ago, I respect-fully submit the following memorandum; The bill to which your attention was called, is H.R. 16985. This bill or an identical Senate bill which had passed both Houses toward the close of the last regular session was pocket vetoed by president Coolidge. Seeing the advisability of some changes in H.R. 169S5, Senator King and Representative Colton of Utah, at my request, introduced respectively at the beginning of the present speciaj session the said balls S.615 and H.R. 2122. They differ from 16985 in this only: They eliminate "the Southern Ute and Uts Mountain Rand of Ute Indians in Utah, Colorado and New Mexico" from the provisions of the new bill and confine the relief sought to the Uintah, Uncompahgre and lib Its : River Bands alone. In all other respects the new ball is the same as H.R. 16985, We respectfully submit the re-pa-t of the House Committee on H.R. 15985 submitted by Rr. Williamson, and invite a carefuj consideration of the same.
