Previous to the beating, the bark was gone over wit some degree of care to free the material from any roug particles. Old Piung Niltongkum is performing this task 4. The beating of 440/ bark at the Bangsom mill wa done upon a heavy wooden plank of such proportion that two or four women could pound at the same time 5+ To form a sheet of paper Pyn waded into the strea and placed a mould upon the surface of the water, sh f then poured beaten bark upon the cloth of the mould 6. The mould was next lifted slowly from the surfac of the pond, care being taken to keep it level so that th thin deposit of macerated fibres would be undisturbed 7. Luolin then placed the mould, with the newly-mad sheet,in an inclined position upon a wooden frame an rolled the moist paper to give it a smooth even surface 8. After the rolling process, the mould, with its layer o pulp, was placed upright against wood supports so tha the paper would be in a favourable position for drying w Digitalimag © 2004 Marriott Libary, University of tah.
