The generation of both has accomplished wonderful results. The former has played and continues to play its part as a motive and transporting power . The lat ·~er does more . It not only has the transporting' power of steam, with limitless arhplication and addition, but it is the greatest known means of the a ge in transmitting thought, information, news--everything in t he shape of intelligence that man desire s transmitted. It is a ma rvelous improvement over the so-called :~ old order of things" and tha t it has "come to stay" will no t be refuted or questioned . In Utah, a.s elsewhere, the "old" had i t s day and the ·"new" is now having its turn in time. l In Pioneer times there was no electric telegra ph--there were no railway trains, in Utah. The means of transmitting news was at first most diffio.ul t . It frequently meant weeks and months of weary work and wa iting to deliver messages in r emote parts of the United States or to receive messages in · response t hereto. After some · years t he Pony Express i dea was evolved and gradually put into execution .
