Show / Haywood Valley May 15, 1877 Came over from the ·Armuchie Branch last week. Held meeting Sunday forenoon and went' to hear a Methodist Circuit-rider preach a mess of stuff about the doing away of prophecy and t~e Mormons·, delusion, fraud and faise Prophet was the burden of his song. His name is Boyd; an Irishman. Went. to hear h~m again on Tuesday night when he had · ve~ much softened d~wn. Held meeting at Uncle Peter Lawrence's Thursday night. Thursday we came to Major Freeman's and stopped all night . Gave out a meeting for Sunday. C~me on over Saturday and stayed all night at Brother Mannings' . Pre·ached at Major Freeman's Sunday morning. Close attention · paid. Major :Freeman badly stirred up on the question of baptism • . Rock Sp.r ings, Georgia June 5, 1877 . Brother 1. -ahd myself left the brethren in Haywood Valley _on the 1( 3tst of May. Came to District Town and stopped over night with Wesley S~opshire. Treated kindly. Came to Jas. Mattox for dinner, from there, by way of LaFayette to this place . · Stayed a11 night with Jas. Smith. Obtained a school house to preach in. Preached Sunday to a good audience. Had dinner at Wm. Key's. · ·Stopped over night at Jas. Wilburn's. Last night at Mr. ' Jon~s. Had dinner at Mrs . . Park's. We are treated kindly fn this neighboi-hood and will probably preach again. · Rock Springs June 6, 1877 ·Came -up to Jas. Byrum's yesterday · afternoon ·and sperit the night. Talking and conversing upon the principles yest~rday and today. She refused to allow us to 'take our washing to a Negro woman a~nd did it herself beside giving us each a pair of socks. Had a long talk with Miss Rocksy Wilbourn on the Gospel: Stopped over night at Mr. James Smithfs last night. Came to town this morning and secured the courthouse to preach in after moving about considerable . John Jones, a saloon keeper . and the jailer, put us up f ·or the riight. Treats us kindly . Had a large congregation out to hear us who gave strict attention. After meeting a Baptist minister by the name of Russeli' came up. to us and demanded a ·sign; and received his reply and after t he Pharisee came a _Lawyer a~d asked a · wuestio~ Sunday (lOth) .. , the IJawyer came to us and talked some length of time , ·after which we drove out to this· point in time t"o hear a· few words of the ·fi'ni sh of a Methodist Elder's sermon, who had most wickedly :lied'· a bout~ ·US.
