Show A Club All Your Own Chet Fans: This One's For You Editor's Note: Recently, we requested information concerning the C het Atkins Appreciation Society. The association's president, Bob Guest, sent this reply: In response to your inquiry regarding the Chet Atkins club: The first group operated from 1952- 1960. A second club was formed in 1982, and is still active today. Chet rejected the term "fan club," but agreed to the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society (CAAS) as the name of the group. Initial membership was 115; the club now boasts 550 members. There have been five CAAS Nashville conventions so far, with the sixth annual meeting scheduled for July 12-14, 1990. Chet visits the convention daily, performs during a Saturday session with his group and gives a solo performance at the Saturday evening banquet. Gibson has donated an Atkins "CE" model guitar as a door prize for the convention for the last three years.
