He started in Colorado around the first of October, stopped for a concert in Moab, then continued in Nevada, California, Oregon, Montana and finished up in Salt Lake City with an lAMA concert last month. Before show time in Salt lake, we say down and talked about his background and influences. Bill was born November 25, 1951 (happy birthday!) in Hartford, Connecticut and as he says, died once or twice at the Chit Chat Lounge in Haverhill, Massachusetts early in his career. He gave is vital statistics: Bats: right; Throws: right; Lifetime average: .317 Morrissey has lived all over New England, mostly in New Hampshire and has spent brief stints in California, Texas and Alaska (the latter three, it is presumed, for research purposes only). He said he felt destined to become a singer I songwriter as he was always making up lyrics, even at an early age. He first began listening to folk music when his family moved the Boston area in the spring of 1964. That's when he got into the whole Cambridge/ Club 47 thing, which was one of the centers of folk music at that time. He like the idea of an artist being able to write and perform alone, without a back-up band. Morrissey has played the guitar and a Bob Dylan-influenced harmonica for most of his performing life. His most influential recordings are: 1. Highway 61, Bob Dylan 2. Rubber Soul, The Beatles 3. Today, Mississippi John Hurt 4. Hangman's Beautiful Daughter, Incredible String Band 5. any solo album of Thelonius Monk continued next page Han~ey Reid. and Deenng BanJOS ... CALIFORNIA A Class Act.
