Show Cairc th* 2b th Oct. 1949 Dr Aziz Suryal Atiya, Cairo Dear Sir, We have your to-day's letter, Informing us that Mm. Wendell Phillips has written to you that the Library of Congress is willing to undertake all the expenses for microfilming the manuscripts of the Holy Convent of Sinai, that he has everything for the realisation of this project except the sum of % 10.000.- you proposed, as a gratuity fco our Convent, on this occasion and that he will try to raise this sum from other sources . Although this donation is not in proportion to the sacrifice which our Convent will do in favour of the Library of Congress and which could be done to others under better conditions for our Convent, we exceptionaly accept, for the sake of the science, the sum of $ 16,000.- offered to us, on the condition that it will be deposited to our representative in New-Tork, Mr. Kauffmann- Grinstead 5$$Fifth Avenue New York. As soon as we shall receive from our qfoixsaid representative the advice that he received the sum, for our account, we shall advise Mr. Wendell Phillips, in order that the ohAssioa may start and come here to begin photo rraphing and filming our manuscripts. Our convent wishes also to let you know that if the Library of Congress would allow scientific Institutions er individuals to buy copies of these microfilms* it should be fair that our Convent would receive 20% en the selling prices. Trusting that these modest demands will be willingly accepted by Mr. Wendell Phillips. We are, Dear Sir. Yours Faithfully, / «Ay<~-^brj in |
