LEE, DIRECTOR TELEPHONE, GARFIELD 1-7340 Dr. Aziz S. Atiya July 9, 1963 Director Kiddle East Center University of Utah Salt Lake City, Utah My dear Dr. Atiya: I was delighted to have your kind letter of June 18th and the information concerning the little scroll. I passed this on to the owner and feel that I have done my duty once again to the public. Thank you indeed for your help. If it were not for my trip to Sinai and Europe, I most certainly would have taken advantage of your Intensive Arabic Program. I wanted to do this for a long time and hope that it will be possible another year. Perhaps if the program works out well this year it will be repeated. Your inclusion with Harvard to receive this honor from the Government is certainly a great tribute to the work you are doing and you are to be greatly commended for it. Utah must be virgin territory for studies of this sort, and the fact that you have built it up to such a stature is quite incredible. As much as I would have liked the opportunity to do this concentrated work in Arabic, in view of the Sinai project there Is obviously no other choice. I have been creaming of It ever since you first told me of their textile treasury there. I do hope that I will find some exiting textiles; whether I do or not the opportunity to see St. Catherines will be more than ample reward. I have never met Weitzmann but, of course, know a great deal about him and his work and do p.ndeed, look forward to this opportunity to work with him. Unfortunately, I do not expect to be able to be there for more than two or three weeks, depending on the material I find - unless it should prove so fantastic that I just cannot leave the place, but my present plans are for two or the most three weeks, and then to fly back to Europe and carry on with the rest of the project that I have under way. I will by all means report to you the outcome of my visit when I return. Again, thank you for your kind letter and for the information concerning the scroll. I hope that you will again be coming to Cleveland and that I will have the opportunity to see you. My best wishes to your wife, With kindest regards, Very sincerely yours, Dorothy G.
