I was very much interested to hear that you had met Gregorio>!fs in Cairo and I hope very much that the occasion will arise when you come east to have a chance for an extensive chat with me. I naturally would like to hear more about your experiences in Egypt at the present time. As far as I am concerned I am not considering any trip to Sinai in the near future. I am hopping for the best that eventually it will be possible again to approach it from Cairo and Suez. I also gather from your letter that you were in India and I wish to congratulate you to the publication of the first two volumes of your Arabic manuscript about which you had repeatedly spoken to me. I finally got for you a copy of a general book on icons of which I wrote the section on the ones from Sinai. Unfortunately they sent a copy of the Italian edition but I gather that for a linguist like you, it really doesn't matter which language it is. The German edition, the first one printed, was immediately out of print. I shall send the copy to you immediately after the new year because there is too much danger that at this moment things get lost in the rush of the Christmas mail. I would indeed appreciate a copy of your History of Eastern Christianity which you offered me in your letter. I must admit that I have not yet seen it. I am naturally very much interested in the subject.
