I returned home to Honolulu last night after my wonderful experience with you and my visits to Japan and Korea and back to Utah for the Golden Plate Award. I only had a few spare minutes with Lowell Thomas, and we wanted to see you but were unable to contact you. I'll do better next time. I hope you're feeling much better. I was worried sick when I found you were in the hospital; but your voice was just as strong as in old times, and Lola was just as sweet as I remembered her. In fact, I could see us together at the Monastery of St. Catherine, for you haven't aged one bit since we first met those many years ago in Egypt. I've been back in Washington, working to put an expedition in Marib, in the Yemen Arab Republic, where we were driven out 21 years ago. This is the richest remaining archaeological treasure house anywhere in the world to be excavated. The Moon Temple is about 1,000 ft. in circumference; and the walls stick out of the ground about 30 ft., with huge inscription around them. My chief archaeologist, Professor Ray Cleveland, who worked with me so long in Arabia, has been in contact with your Phil Hammond about his joining the expedition. Phil is an old, personal friend of mine. Recently, I showed my famous movie on Marib and other parts of South Arabia at the Smithsonian. Everyone told me this was an election year and no one would come out. They had 600 seats, expected 300, and 1,200 showed up, including all the heads of |
