Atiya 14 Sharia Wadi el Nil Maadi (near Cairo) Dear Professor Atiya: So much has happened in the political field since I wrote you that I hardly know where to begin. I only hope you are well and that you have in no way been endangered by the current trend of events in Egypt. We get a very poor picture over here in the United States, simply because of inadequate reporting. I hope however when I return to Egypt in the not too distant future, we811 have a chance for a long visit and you can fill me in on all the details. You don't know what a pleasure it is to receive your words of encouragement and cooperation. So many scholars and scientists in this world accept assistance but then after the work is done, wish to take all the personal claim and credit, and don't wish to cooperate any more with those who helped to make the expeditions possible. And it is certainly gratifying to me to receive your generous offer of cooperation and I can assure you that together we will accomplish a great deal which will be not only of credit to you and myself, but to the various Institutions that were associated with us. Prof. W.F. Albright and Prof. Casper Kraemer, who is Chairman of the Department of Classics of New York University, will be editing these series which I am planning to include your volume in, and I will be sending you further details in this regard in the very near future. Last week Professor Albright and myself have been in Pittsburgh, going over the really amazing amount of material that our expeditions in Beihan collected. I only wish you could have a chance to see this, but certainly on your next visit to the United States, at which time I trust that I'll have the privilege of seeing a little more of you and helping to make your visit a little more enjoyable, we'll have a chance to get together and go over many many projects of mutual interest. In the meantime I will probably be visiting the Middle East in the not too distant future and I'll keep you closely informed with regard to my itinerary. As you know in the very near future we want to present the completed microfilm copies of all the Mt. Sinai manuscripts to Farouk University and with you and myself to run this affair, it should go off |
