Show Professor A.S. Atiya (Cont'd) Page 2 to you until I saw you in person, but I wanted to get your thinking on this in advance, and when I see you in Egypt possibly I could call on the authorities who would pass judgment on this matter if you feel it desirable. As you know Moustapha Amer is a very old friend of mine, as we were together in East Africa and various other places. Another suggestion in this regard - the Library of Congress is giving me some financial aid with regard to this manuscript in that they are agreeing to purchase so many volumes. As you can well understand neither the American Foundation nor myself will profit from this financially, what we are trying to do is to publish your book and to get it before the top scholars and institutions all over the world. It might be that Alexandria University could agree to purchase a considerable quantity of volumes, and in this way help us defray the cost. These are suggestions, just for you to think over, and as you know we have had many mutual expedition problems in the past, and by putting our two heads together have always come up with a very fine solution. With regard to the minor alterations in the introduction, I suggest that you send those to me immediately, so that I can get them in the hands of Professor Albright and Professor Kraemer. I think this would be better than waiting till the proofs come out. So please rush those to me as soon as possible. I am very grateful to you for your intervention with the Royal Geographical Society on behalf of Commander Wendell Phillips Dodge, and would be also grateful if you could get the Royal Geographical Society to send me my own membership form. Our current expedition in the Sultanate of Muscat and Oman continues to enjoy every success and I'll give you a full report on that and all other matters as soon as I see you. By the way, do you suggest that this time when I come through Cairo, that I bring my feature motion picture entitled "Exploring Queen of Sheba Land" which is a story of our expeditions in Arabia, to show in Cairo, or do you think that this would be the wrong time to do so? Best personal wishes and sincere greetings to Mrs. Atiya, Encl. ENDELL PHILLIPS |
