Show 3/ f V * 0 « ** s THE LIBRARIAN OF CONGRESS WASHINGTON May 24, 1950 Dear Professor Atiya: Further to my letter to you of May 15, 1950: I have explored further with Professor Albright the possibilities for your coming to the Library of Congress for some months to complete the work on the Arabic Firmans. Professor Albright is hopeful that he may be able to make some arrangements for lectures or other academic assignments. Meanwhile, I find that it will be possible for us to offer you a consultantship here at the Library of Congress for three months at $500.00 a month to advise us in matters relating to the acquisition and organisation of materials within your very wide field of competence, and for the especial purpose of reviewing the films of the Arabic Firmans which have been copied with your assistance at St. Catherine's Monastery. With respect to the latter, we especially need your help in making such arrangements, lists, etc., to make known the contents of these films to the learned world, so that scholars in this field may-if they desire to do so-order microfilm copies from us. With respect to the Greek manuscripts, we already have in preparation a list of this kind for publication, and we wish to subject the other manuscripts to similar treatment. I very much hope that you will be able to accept this appointment. It will be both an honor and a pleasure to have you with us. Sincerely yours, Wm ? Wdm9 Verner V« Clapp Acting Librarian of Congress Professor A. S. Atiya 13 Sharia Mariette Pasha Cairo, Egypt, |
