Show 23+M THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN DEPARTMENT OF THE HISTORY OF ART TAPPAN HALL ANN ARBOR. MICHIGAN March 7, 1960 Professor Aziz S. Atiya Center for Intercultural Studies University of Utah Salt Lake City, Utah Dear Aziz: Your welcome letter of February 17, enclosing copies of the Archbishop's reply to your letter, has filled me with new hope for the proposed expedition to Mount Sinai this fall. I had begun to wonder if he was not well or if I had made some misstep in my letter to him last November. As usual, you have found a solution for us. I am deeply grateful, I have sent to Kurt copies of your letter and of that from the Archbishop, i know that he will share my feeling of obligation toward you. Our work at the Monastery would never have been possible without your support. In accord with your suggestion, we shall certainly offer to the Archbishop a gift of $750 to be used as he sees fit. After the generous reception we received from him and the Fathers, it is only proper that we should respond as generously as we can. In accord with your suggestion, I wrote to Dr. Hashim. He sent me very promptly the courteous letter of which I enclose a copy. I have drafted the letter which he suggests I send to the United Arab Republic Embassy in Washington and will send it as soon as I have received the necessary photographs of members of the party. For your information, I shall send you a copy of this letter. I was delighted to learn from your letter of January 21 that Fuad's family is on the increase. I look forward to seeing him and Lily in Cairo and only wish that your branch of the family were to be there also. Well, let us hope for this happy reunion on another occasion. Meanwhile, I trust that all goes well with you, Lola, Nayra, and Rames. Please give them my affectionate best wishes. With all the best to yourself and with renewed thanks, I remain, Cordially yours, George H, Forsyth, Jr. Chai rman GHFiSMP Encs. (2) AIR MAIL |
