Show 23 .yp^ January 19, I960 Dr. George H. Forsyth, Jr. Department of Fine Arts The University of Michigan Tappan Hall Ann Arbor, Michigan Dear Georges Thank you so much for your gracious letter of January 11 just received. On reading it, I sat at once to compose a rather lengthy apistla to tha Archbishop in which I brought up the suggestion of a donation, as you will notice, in a casual but decisive manner. I told him that I suggested the repetition of last year's figure at least that is $500.00 or a little upwards to give you some latitude in manipulating your budget with your usual discration. Parson-ally, if I were you, I would go for the figure of $750.00 which would no doubt be an incentive towards sending episcopal orders to the monks for opening up closed doors before you. I hope you do approve of this suggestion and of the text of my letter of which I am enclosing one copy for your files. I am glad you consider it wise to write to Mr. Hashenw Of course, as Minister of Education, he is an extremely busy man and you may not hear from him promptly, but it is good to be in his mind and you will be well-advised to pay him with Fuad a courtesy call on your arrival in Egypt. By the way, Fuad and Lily are eagerly awaiting your next visit and they will act most faithfully for me in your services in Cairo, Lily is expecting an increase in March, but she is very well. You will accordingly see both the younger new members of the family whom we have seen only partly in photographs. How I wish I can accompany you in the Fall! But this appears premature as I shall have to remain in the country for the period of a year until my credentials are rectified before thinking of going abroad. If there is anything further that you would like me to take up in your behalf, do feel free to write me and be assured that this will be taken with care, attention and pleasure. Lola and the children join me in sending you together with Hoppe and tha other members of your household our very best wishes and affectionate remembrances. Yours ever, Aziz S. Atiya ASA:acd |
