Show with arthritis or bursitis you must (I get this 'must' business from the Egyptians who never seem to be able to say •should' J) go to the spa at San Juan CosaL5. I never beLieved in these oLd wives taLes that hot waters would make such cures....but when I went down Last year I could not raise my arms over my head on account of bursitis. After our stay of 5 weeks I could do the crawl with no troubLe and I can still lift my arms overhead without ill effects. And now they not only have the hot pool (beside 4 others) but masseurs and masseuses, whirlpool baths and, in the hot pool, a sLot in which one can put LO pesos and get pulsating streams of hot water aLL over your body for 5-LO minutes, I can't remember which. And the grounds are so lovely, I just love to hear the swish of the wind in the pine trees. Undoubtedly we LI be there around the end of Oct. untiL 3 Jan. WilL we see you then? Beautiful grounds and spacious rooms and aLL for $9/day. 5 swimming pools from which to choose ranging in temp, from 75 to LLO . Peace and qufeet (except on week ends). Gads, you would think I am one of their saLesmen.' But, truLy, this is one wonderful and Lovely spot. Try it, you'U Like it.' Mother mumbLing to herseLf on the sofa trying to figure out how to make out with her sweater she is knitting. She is not the same knitter as of oLd.' I wonder if she'LL ever get it done. She keeps unraveLLing and redoing aLL the time. But at Least it keeps her busy. The same with reading....I give her a TIME and she couLd be ' reading it for a couple of months, over and over since she forgets what she has read as soon as the page is turned! A cheap way to Live! Also the same with food....I can serve her chicken 5 times in a row and she does not mind since she doea not remember what she has eaten the previous day. Poor mother, it is sad to see the disintegration^...but after ail what can one expect when one is nearing 96? Our Carthage xpdtn. certain I'y has gotten quite a bit of coverage. Just saw something about it in the Smithsonian magazine, a Long with other kind words for Harvard and Chicago.. ...or was it Harvard? Gads, I am getting as forgetfuL as mother.' Could it be inherited? CertainLy not my "senile tremors" for mother's hands are steady as a rock but not so mine. This Am I wanted to do some soLdering of two very fine wired and it was awfuL, I had to rpop my hand so thar- I couLd stay in the same pLace long enough.' This darned decrepitating seniLity! Blast.' It used to be "wouLdst that I couldst but I dassnt" but now it's gotten to be "wouLdst that I couldst but I can't" Oh weLL, mahLish.' I'LL never forget, at Kasr aL Hayrs, when one workman happened to Let fa LL on his foot a huge storre which almost broke it and the workman nest to him just smiLed and said 'MahLish" If I had been the receiver of the stone I wou_Ld have bopped the feLLow who was so non'chaLant.' It seems that everything brings to mind events which happened in the MiddLe East. So wonderful. Like my second home. NostaLgia, nostaLgia.' But enough now, I must prepare dinner. Fortunately motter Likes my food as did my ex-girL friend who came to ManzaniILo to visit us for 5 weeks. She was goggLed-eved at the way I cooked (threw things together) and absoLuteLy refued to do anything . herseLf, said I was so far better that she was.
