Show August 8, 1961 Dr. Aziz S. Atiya 8 Wadi El-Nil Street Maadi, Egypt U. A. R. Dear Dr* Atiya How time fliesl Dr. Mulder sent a little note yesterday informing us that it will be a matter of a few weeks before he returns to Salt Lake City. The Middle East Religions Institute is still going on successfully. There is a large turnout at each of the lectures. I enclose a copy of the lecture which Sami gave last week; 1 suppose he has already written you about it. Dr* Read tells me that Dr. Hoballah does not want an honorarium but rather we use the $150 for some worthy purpose on the Middle East here on campus* I should appreciate your comments on this matter. We have been very busy here at the Center. The Phi Beta Kappa Convention will be held on Campus August 28*30 and I have been tabulating preregistration forms, counting checks, making room reservations at Ballif Hall, sending lots of "pro* paganda" material on Utah, and making numerous telephone calls all over the state concerning this Convention, three hundred delegates from the United States are expected to be here--- converging like bees around a queen bee. Marion Sheets is here at the Center as our official librarian. I am glad that I don't have that to take care of this summer because we have been getting the Reed Collection numbered, periodicals sorted, and straightening up the shelves. The "interior decorating" of the reading room is gradually changing; it will be impossible to conduct classes here next year since we have an extra desk, chair, and typewriter now. The weather continues hot and rather dry with sporadic thundershowers• The temperature Inside this building becomes intolerable after 1 or 2 pclock. |
