Show <h» Mostofi, Director October 16, 197^ fiddle East Center A. 3. Atiya mr, M, A. Saud 252^* Barataria SpringfimLd, Missouri - 658<& Tim above-mentioned gentlemen recently called on as at my office while visiting the :„iddle Bast Library and the academic activities of our Center. Apparently he was profoundly impressed and wished to explore the possibility of enrolment with us to pursue a graduate course of studies leading to a doctorate in Middle Eastern Studies, or more specifically as has put it in the enclosed copy of his letter just reeeived^thtr study of Islam". I an referring his wishes to your good offices to deal withew*administratively by sending him the necessary forms together with all tha relevant instructions relating to his forraal application, fr. Abul-Saud is apparently a very cultured gentleman with a past which I cannot define of a career in the Egyptian University, He has been a resident in London (England) for many years. Originally he came from a very renowned family in Sgypt and he had a turbulent political career before his voluntary exile many years ago, I was made to understand that he owned a successful business between England and Switzerland. At present, he is eager to join a University in this country where he can devote some years to the writing of a book on Islam, and he seems to think that our holdings in the field of his interest are probably the most commendable he has witnessed. Though I have no doubt as to the gentleman's culture and erudition, his maturity and ability, and his superb Snglish style, the Genter should first take tha necessary steps to accumulate his forraal credentials for due consideration of his case in the light of our regulations as a State University, Consequently I am communicating his case to you for for the normal procedures. He can he reached at the above address of his son-in-law who is a noted surgeon in that area. Thank you for your co-operation. |
