Atiya Farouk I University ALEXANDRIA Zurich, 8-1^52 Dear Professor, I deeply regret that for so long a time you have not had any news from me. But in the first months of autumn I had a lot to do with international congresses and with the examinations, and than, as I hoped to have time to study thouroughly the questions we have spoken about, I fell ill for a long time and coudn't recover until Christmas. I hope that you will have had a good travel to Egypt, and that you and yrur familiy are well up §md enjoy the nice days Egypt has', as I am told, in these winte,- months.I think you will have recommenced your work at the Mount Sinai papers, and I can only say, that I, old historian that I am, would be happy to be able to return myself some times to the historic studies. Mister Fuad will have begun his work in i:,gypt to?, hasn't he? A little late, but nevertheless heartly I send you and Mrs. Atiya and Mr. Fuad my best greatings for the New Year. I can't jugde from here if the new political development will touch the relations that are to be established between Egypt and the IUI. But, the meanings of the IUI being merely cultural, I don't ftepe soT But anyhmy it will depend on your judgement what possibilities there are to realize the purposes we have spoken about in 2urich. So I will not give further details than those contained in the enclosures, and beg you to give me your opinion about these drafts. As you will see, I have stressed the necessety of collaboration, and too, thinking over the plans, I thought it best to seek, if possible, connexe with an Egyptian school. Nevertheless I also wouldn't hesitate to build up a school only depending on the IUI if you would judge it better. The great difficulty for me consists/in the impossibility to oversee from here t" e possibilities and the situation •pt. So further drafting |
