Show from "swan lake" to "le chausser maudit" Hi ball Two outstanding concerts were presented this year by ballet organizations which have grown out of the interest of students in dancing and out of the ingenuity of Elizabeth Hayes, director of the Orchesis concerts, and William Christensen, director of the University Ballet . . . Shirley Ririe and Emma Lou Warren starred in the Orchesis concert which featured a satire on the UN, "Dance of the Salem Witch-hunts," Bar-tok's "Concerto for Piano and Percussion" and "Coronation Train" . . . Joan IX^r Woodbury assisted in the f " Orchesis direction . . . William Christensen's Ballet Theater early in May presented a concert featuring Sally Bailey, Gordon Paxman, Leon Danielian and Nancy Johnson in "Swan Lake," ballet from "The Bartered Bride," "Le Chausseur Maudit" and the entertaining "Grand Pas de Deux" SALLY BAILEY was the star of the highly acclaimed University Ballet Theater's outstanding production in May. PARTICIPANTS in the 1953 Orchesis concerts were Jerri Lu Crowther and Ray Kingston shown rehearsing dance. JOAN PENMAN and Shirley Evans display technique used by dancers and as presented in the April Kingsbury show by members of Orchesis Ballet. |
