With the New Year came Dr. A. Ray Olpin into the president's chair and our friendly President LeRoy Cowles added an Emeritus to his title. JANUARY 1 1946 4 Utonian assembly to nominate candidates for Utah Man. 5 Utah State Symphony Orchestra concert features Claudio Arrau as guest artist and Milton Forstat as guest conductor. 7 Fraternity rush week. Sororities will have their lists down within reason in a couple of weeks. 11 Utah vs. Colorado University in basketball. 12 Utah vs. University of Wyoming at Laramie. 14 What comes more often than weeks set apart for examinations! 19 Utes take on Milo Komenich and the boys from Wyoming at the Deseret Gym. Sheffield better be on the well known "ball" tonight. 20 Sorority rushing begins with informal gatherings at the houses. Panhellenic Council revised rulings for rushing this season. No more coking in herds at the CI. 25 Basketball game at the gymnasium with Colorado State Agricul-tural College. 26 More basketball and taking on Denver U. 31 University Theatre production of "But Not Goodbye." FEBRUARY 1 Navy presents an assembly of their geniusness. 2 The big day for sorority pledging . . . clothes fly while new pledges convert G.I.'s to Joe Colleges in the Sigma Chi Derby. Dinners and slumber parties and serenades. 9 U. of U. vs. Brigham Young University in basketball. 10 We won the game, of course. 13 Women's Recreational Association Carnival . . . prise-winning pie throwing at pledges . . . wheels of fortunes ... a very typical, noisy carnival. 15 A Classic Moderne Junior Prom effectively decorated with draped figures and scrolls by Evelyn Wilson and her committee. Sterling silver scrolls on a charm bracelet chain will recall a wonderful and dreamy evening at a smooth Prom. 18 Harrison Forman speaks under the auspices of the Master Minds and Artists. 21 WRA Award Banquet at the Hotel Utah. 28 Another of those test weeks! Will we never become immune to the horror of the affairs? MARCH 2 Spring vacation, it says here. 11 Registration bedlam transferred to the Library. It slowed things up a bit at first generally, but it saves going across the campus to pay library fines before registering anyway. 12 Students of law and medicine get a head start. The enlargement of the book store was quite essential. 14 Sir James Barrie's "What Every Woman Knows." 15 Ski Carnival Dance-straight from the slopes to the dance in heavy boots or just anything. 16 Ski Carnival on Alta slopes. Lorna Gleave, queen candidate of WRA who won the coveted title, opened the slalom races, 16 "Alice in Wonderland" produced by Young People's Theatre. Two hundred sixty-six Eager freshman girls clamor about the Spur booth for information about membership qualifications at the AWS activities tea in the fall. Carlson Hall is again an all-frosh, pre-war dorm. Its officers are: Ann Wynn, sports chairman; Norma Carrow, song chairman; Georgia Anderson, president; Jean Hyer, publicity chairman; and Pat McKay, vice-president. Not pictured: Gayle Sutton, secretary, and Ann Bailey, treasurer. Chi Delta Phi is honored as Maureen Whipple autographs her book, "Giant Joshua," when she pays their organisation a visit. This is the dinosaur in our geology museum. We always wonder who stuck all the pieces together. |
