Show . S. U. U. fiance • The committee: Parry Sorenson, chairman; Margy Anderson, Robert Flandro, Mildred Kurtz, Spencer Cowan, and George Jackson. Eight dances were presented to the student body during the year by the Associated Students Entertainment committee. The opening dance on October 12 honored the football teams of Utah and Montana State. Decorations were cardboard football players and goal posts built around the orchestra stand. A "ghost" idea was featured on October 26 with black owls, cornstalks, and scarecrows as decorations. On November 9, alumni members of the university, the Denver and Utah football teams were jointly honored. Indian shil-loutes and white buffaloes decorated the ball room. Thanksgiving day supplied the theme for the fourth dance in the series of eight. Highlight of the season's entertainment was offered December 31 in the annual New Year's Frolic. Couples enjoyed dining and dancing in both ballrooms. Winter carnival night was the motif on January 11. Judith Cannon, snow carnival queen, presided over festivities. Valentine's day on February 15 provided the theme for the seventh dance. Comic valentines of outstanding campus personages were placed conspicuously about the ballroom. Untet - Ttatetnitu • The committee: M. Ford Barlow, chairman; Herman Harms, David King, Lorry Moser, and Lynn Stockman. Sponsored by members of the associated campus fraternities in an effort to promote good feeling among all Greek organizations, the annual Interfraternity masquerade was presented on the evening of November 1 in the Union building ballroom. Costumes representing historical, comic, cinematic, and type characters were predominant. Prizes were awarded during the evening for outstanding portrayals. High in opinions of the judges were the "snow couple", the Dionne quintuplets, a Phantom of the Opera, and the Marx brothers (see page 235 for pictures.) 233 |
