Bullock, age 68 , gave the writer man interestint de-tails of tre life o~ his father Thomas Sullock, one of the oricinal pioneers and clerk of the company erri ving et fal t Lake, Valley July 24th, 1847. Thomas Bullock was private secretary to both Joseph Smith and Brigham Young . He in company with ei...,ht guides were the first 1·ormons to view the Salt Lake Valley on July 22 , 1847. The first currency used 1:>y t he pioneers were bills of t },e defunct Kirtland Benk of Ohio, which failed in the panic of 1837. On January 1st, 1849 private currency was issued by the provisional government . On one side appeared the picture of Brigham Youni, and on the other tbat of Thomas Bullock. The printini; of these bills was the first printin6 west of' the Ohio river. Grant Y.
