Mr. Young can remember his father burning large pinon pine logs in a tight furnace like place to char them for blacksith purposes. The logs when charred made a very hot fire. In 1874, at Ka.nosh, the Indians robbed the flour mill. !hey camped near the town and all the whi ta settlers were il8l'med. ~. You11g' s father _ immediately sent him to bring the great Indian Chief. Kanosh. Kanosh arrived and went i ~to the mill, looking around at the Indian mocasin tracks he saidlf. "Indian heep fool." He went over to the Indian camp and within the hour they had all packed up and left the valley. Mr. Young ean remember such noted men as Brigham Young, Buffalo Bill, Heber c. Kimball, Daniel H. Wells, and Willard Richards. He can remember such noted Indians as Kanosh, White Hor~e, Pogneab and TeWeWak. Mr. Young ean recall his father telling him of the panic lbn the valley in the early days. There was a shortage of sugar so the settler all kneeled down and prayed. A heavy dew started to r all and the brush was all white. The settlers gathered this d- and boiled it down and it was sugar. They eallecl it "mana from P.eaven." In 1879, after Mr. Young's father't health began to fail, he decided to go settle in St. Johns, Ariz. and live the rest of his life. On his way he met Brigham Young. Brigham Young wanted to know where he was going and he told him about his failing health and his desire to live the rest ot his life in peace. Brigham said to him, "I don't want you to go there. You are very much needed down in Circlevallq and I want you to go down there." Now Mr. Young had a family of marriagable daughters e.nl sons and he didn't want any of them to inter-marry with the Indians and outlaws. He told Brigham Young of all these reasons, but Brigham said, "I will promise you that none of your children will inter-marry with the Indians and outlaws and that withi¥ a very short tlime the outlaws and Indians ~Y\,~~~ will leave."
