To t ake up homestead l and , s i nce i t was t h ought t hat the re woul d be gr eat er opportunit i es f or t he comi ng generation i n t ha t new pione er count r y. =--- The s chool opportuni t ies there wa s of course very meager, J cons ist i ng oft en of only five t o seven moaths i n a c r owded log house / ' f illed wi th students of all ages and gr ades. Opportunit i es f or dev-elopments , however , were bet ter t han t hey s ound, due t o the unusual personality and intel lect of Mrs. Margar e t A Bartlet t who was f or years a teacher of this one roomed schoolT and t he outstanding char-acter of t he people i n this little pioneer community known first as Lincoln and later as Tridell provided associations very rare for such a pioneer community. Even t hough books were scarce and t he stern realities of pioneer conditions limited the amount of leisure, the training and associations received at the fireside of Horace and Alice Morrill more than made up for the riches and luxuries provided in some of the modern homes of today. From the agee fifteen to nineteen Eugene attended the Uintah .Academy at Vernal Utah. During this time he "batched". In 1921 he attended the Brigham Young University at Provo, again meeting the finan cial emergency by "batching." In L922 he taught school at Lapoint Utah ~nd again in 1923 returned to the B. Y. U. to studyCL-gronomy. In 1924 !> and 25 he attended the Utah State Agricultural College and worked before and after school .to defray expenses. After taking out his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1925 he taught" _,__ __ |
