Figure 4 shows a block diagram of the CAFAT(Computer Aided Flow and Flame Analysis Technology) system which was invented by Nippon Furnace Kogyo Kaisha, Ltd [12] • By using this system the temperature distribution of a flame in a furnace can be inferred from an image of bubble behavior in a water flow model furnace recorded on the TV screen. Because of the difficulties due to the largeness of furnaces being used for practical purposes, various types of models have been used to understand the phenomena in the furnaces. A water stream model used in CAFAT is an example of such a model. In CAFAT, the data obt ~ lned using the water stream model are analyzed using an electric computer. In some other cases, simulation by the aid of an electric computer has been adopted to overcome the difficulties due to the largeness and to predict the combustion phenomena in furnaces. In such a case, a model expressed with a series of equations is used and the results are presented in visualized forms such as flow fields, temperature distribution, and fuel concentration distributions. Thus, it is sometimes considered that the simulation by the aid of an electric computer ought to be classified 5 |
