Show The papers being presented here encompass the state of the art for NOX reduction in industrial boilers, furnaces and heaters. When one considers that these industrial units include a much wider range of operating conditions and heating duties than that experienced by the electric utility industry, the solution for a particular set of conditions and regulations will vary from iridust'ry to industry and within a given industrial complex. KVB Inc. has implemented controls for emissions reduction in the utility and industrial boilers, gas turbines and combined cycle units, process heaters, cement kilns and primary metal furnaces. Mr. Jerry Robinson. will advise us on KVB'S philosphy on NOX control strategy in the second paper of this morning. Currently the most stringent national ambient NOX standards are in Japan. Four (4) papers will deal with Japanese Technology. Two authors, Mr. Yoshida of Osaka Gas Company and Mr. Suzuki of Kobe Steel, are members of the Japanese F.lame Research Commi ttee and we are particularly gratified with this international cooperation among members affiliated with the Internationql Flame Research Foundation - (IFRF). They will discuss burner deve.lopment with special emphasis on low NOX emission. A third Japanese author, Mr . Inaba, will present data on the Hitachi burner. In the area of non-homogeneous catalytic treatment, the expertise is mainly in Japanese Technology. Battelle' has made an in-depth and on-site study of post combustion processes. Post combustion treatment of flue gases for NOX' reduction is the subject of Dr. Rosenberg's paper. European technology is represented by several · papers. Dr. Sigfrid Michelfelder (now with Steinmuller GMBH of Germany) is a former' director of the research station in Ijmuiden; N therlands. The Steinmueller burner is of special interest since ~ work on its prototype burner was performed at IFRF's Ijmuiden Resea~9h S~ation. The current director, Peter Roberts, will update our members and other attendees on IFRF'S research station activities -particularly in the pollution abatement area. - - I ... , The United Kingdom's Developments in the low emission burners are · the basis of two papers, one by William Coe of CEA Combustion Inc. on its parent company's forced draft Petrochemical and Process Burner and the other by Peter Nutcher of Process Combustion Corporation on the emission characteristic of the Urquhart Engineering's Toroidal Combustor. I don't wish to imply that all the development work for. emission reduction is overseas. In the burners development ar~a, ~ Richard Waibel describes work performed at the Institute o~ .GasJ ,Technology wi th respect to the Bloom Baffle and other burners. ~1.e.nn England l . of Energy and Environmental Research Corporation will discuss his company's activities in the reduction of emission when firing petroleum and syn-fuels. 2-2 |
