Show Art Guild tea will feature artists in action DESERET NEWS, TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 1977 C By Rose Mary Pedersen \ Ifeseret News staff writer ij Paul didn't really get into art until the '60s. Before that, he was into I architecture. i Taking great pride in not falling into a comfortable rut, the watercolorist f refuses to stick with one technique or style just because it sells well. | "I don't necessarily paint to sell," he i says emphatically. "I am looking for something new all the time ... for an unhackneyed approach." Because he is always searching for the fresh and unusual, few of Paul's water colors look alike â€" they run the ! gamut from railroad yards to cathedrals to landscapes to old-time airplanes. Paul's search for the unhackneyed also has helped him build up a large reject pile. But it doesn't worry him. "Painting isn't my whole life," says the artist who has won numerous prizes for his work over the years. "I'm working on a manuscript about man's concept of space ..'. I hope to be teaching jazz piano soon. I have many interests." ^ Watercolorist Paul EHingson's work can be seen at several galleries around town. And he'll be among the artists who will be "in action" at the membership fair. Surrounded by some of his works, Paul Ellingson thumbs through his sketchbook. He'll demonstrate at tea.
