Superintendent Tidwell: Mr. Oran Curry will act as official interpreter being chocked by Mae# Fred Mart in caso of misinterpretation or misunderstanding. Mr. Mart will be privileged to call his attention to any bad translation. Superintendent Tidwell: You .gentlemen have convened today for the purpose of selecting a Dusincss Committee to represent the people of tills reservation in any matters of an official nature pertaining to tribal affairs. This is something new to you people and to the people as a whole of this reservation, but I believe that you all realize that it has reoched that stage in wk&*# your tribal affairs where it is not possible for the people as a whole to look after these matters. Matters are coming up in the future by which you have got to have men to act on them and men of good Judgement, and good business methods demand that somebody be held responsible for the same and somebody to whornff the people can depend upon and go to and transact their business through the isuperintendent, Indian Offioo, and the Secretary of the Interior without having to interview ovory nan on tho reservation. For that reason I wont to urge on you gentlemen that you lay aside any personal matters or any personal feelings and in selecting tho two men to represent your bhnd lGt it be men you know aro capable and reliable men. Men you can put your trust in. It is some tiling that you owe yourselves, you owe tho people of tho reservation, because they havo placed confidence in you to select thoso persons, and you owe it to y ur Superintendent, vrhother it is mo or somebody olee in tho future, you owe it to the Indian Office, who I know are trying to servo you as beat they can, you owe it toy?Bmilies, because a great deal dopends upon what these gontloTfen do in tho future. However, I will say this, that this business committee will be charged with the responsibility of seeing that tho Superintendent of thia reservation, as well as tho Commissioner of Indian Affairs, or any other person who is dealing with you people, do what is right, and what is Just. Under tho system of handling Indian Affairs Superintendents aro quite often changed. I sometime think that io not fair to tho Indians to whom ho has been associated with. The reason I cay it is not fair ia estnhwooui lgodhr nt tobohet rck eapneulo sawyec e -ea. riThsttah teio Isfo naotomnitf mhietidr onyingise n cbglu otsit tnoh dumsmoa .nuf nantFraio tlrau sryt eoyh uaott uhh aarpvtee oa ypskoloneuno ,wpa nooro oepmm leece ot lnio-nnegs , |
