STcti Asrnic r N,,Mn, n __ Montrose, Colo. -2- In connection with this, we have a Mr T. M. McKee, who put in ahout 30 years with the Ute Indians collecting curios, war bonnets and everything in connection with the indian life, including their dance pictures on buckskin. Tlae Smithsonian Institute has pronounced this collection to be probably the best in the United States. I believe vie could a mange with Mr. McKee to have this placed on exhibition, under proper safeguard. Or, if not, he is a retired gentleman and alv/ays willing to lecture to any one who desires to listen, as to the various phases of indian life. The spring is only three miles out from Montrose. I believe this place would be very attractive for those interested in-4ndian life, and also for writers and even for arti^-ts who desired to paint some of the costumes of the Indians', -which are now obsolete. Ay motive is not entirely unselfish; it would be a wonderful advertisement for Montrose. I hope thi3 strikes you favorably, and if it does and something can be done, lets start it at once, because Chipeta's body ought to be brought here ahout in Harch. With best washes, I am, Sincerely yours, of. yyk'fy^A^ |
