Show A The Indians of this reservation are not very far advanced in the sciences of civilization. They still possess to a strong degree the habits and desires of their ancestors; and will continue for some years to come to cause these little difficulties, but they will grow les3 and less as •time goes by. I do not suppose that illegal hunting will cease, either this year or next year, but it 7/as handled this year in quite a satisfactory manner; and as to whether the Indians will cause a little trouble next fall will deuend largely uoon their ability to ali*n -way unnoticed, v and accomplish some little hunting before it is known. However, if the telephone mesyage of the lame and Pish Commissioner was transmitted correctly to me in stating that 800 Indians 7/ere on the hunting expedition, it would indicate that the authorities of Colorado were exercised in an unwarranted manner over what proved to be a small occurrence, easily handled. Vory respectfully, WHP./EBJ <F Supervisor in Charge. - 5 - |
