Show i On tha list I have given the allotment numbers of the various decedents, their names, their numbers on the 1897 allotment roll and_,where their names appeared on the annuity rolls of that date, their roll number is also given. It will be observed that in some cases their names had never been on the annuity roll.., In the case of. allottee Annie, Uncos-- pahgr.e No. 530, Jones is given as her guardian; this may be "Jones Eggleston. The 1897 allotment roll indicates that only two of the other allottees had guardians, and even the oldest and best informed Indians on this reservation are not now able to recognise any of these orphans by their allotted names. It will, therefore, be necessary to trace them back through the annuity rolls until they either are listed with their parents or with their guardian, in order that the identity of the allottees may be determined. In connection with Uncompahgre allottee :ro. 388, Mary Wanenas.attention is invited to the reoorts of hearings which I have already submitted in cases Uncompahgre do. 415 and Uncompahgre Uo. 572. There are some indications that this Mary Wapenas was a daughter of 7'apenas; these indications aro by no means conclusive but search of the earlier records may disclose the facts. It Is suggested that there is an allottee on this reservation named Mary Wapanah; this |
