Several years ago there was a fire at this agency which , • -3 & • ' ".'.; •;,..•; y- ,.•,-„ •.. .... ;•; destroyed many of the records and damaged others so that ° t - they are* no longer legible. The oldest annuity rolls in the files of this agency are the 1898 annuity rolls. We have a copy of the 1897 allotment of the Uncompahgres, but, of course, there were many allottees who were not Included on this roll, and were entered and allotted on fl the more complete 1905 allotment roll. At the close of the allotment rolls of the Uncompahgre. there were grouped together a-bunch of orphans who were al-lotted^ and the data concerning whose families were not sot down. Many of these orphans died almost immediately thereafter and the settling up of their estates presents difficulties which we cannot meet with the data at hand.
