Show Minutes of Council held at Uinta Agency, Whiterocks, Utah, by James Mclaughlint United States Indian Inspector, with the^ Uinta. and White River Ute Indians belonging on the Uinta Reservation, Utah, for discussion and consideration of the provisions of the X Act of May 27, 1902, affecting said Indians,, and as amended by the Indian Appropriation Act approved March 3, 1903. This law, theaSecretary is compelled to carry out, and one of the thing3 he is obliged to do is to send an Inspector to you to get your vote on the question of allotments.. He has selected for that purpose one of .his best men, and one who has had many years experience among the Indians as an Agent and as an Inspector, and who understands the need3 of the Indiana as well as any man in the country, and above all, is a friend of the: Indian race. He has given to your interests much hard study that he may advise you right. I have known him for many years, and he is a good man -JoYthe Indian. I want you to understand that the Secretary and the Commissioner are your friends in this matter as well as all others, and want to do the best they can for you, but all the Secretary can do now is to send to you a man who will explain to you all about the law, and who has a a straight tongue t so that what he tells you, you can believe, and •ahat he advises you to do, you cawt depend upon a3 the best for your interests and the welfare of yourj people now and in the |
