Show Salt Lake City, Utah. April 6-1903. Captain William Mercer, U.S.Indian Agent, Uintah and Ouray Agencies, White Rocks, Utah. My dear sir:- I have a copy of a letter from the Acting Commissioner of the Indian Bureau, dated Washington, March 25-1903. In it H;P.Myton, •-,- y-f^. ,,...'•.-•- •• ••,*-.- - •., ...A, - i .y^ ss .y,..-.-. _.• 1 ... .... . .. ..y ...... . the late Agent, was requested to have me state in a letter to the Agent whether or not I desired to have the land on the school lot •designed for our Missionary Hospital, set apart to me as Bishop, or to the Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society of the Protestant Episcopal Church. As I understand the matter, the Governemnt only allows Missionary Societies to be their tenants at will on the reservations, and consequently I presume that it makes little difference to whom the privilege is granted. All of our property belonging to the Church in this state is held by a Corporation known as n The Corporation of the Episcopal Church in Utah". I am President of that Corporation, as well as the head o f the Episcopal Church work in this state. As the Corporation has an enduring existence, I presume it may be as well to have the land set apart for the use of that Corporation. I am very fespect fully, V y y" i Bishop of Salt Lake. |
