Date |
1935 |
Description |
The Ute names of this paper were taken from the census and other rolls of the Uintah and Ouray agency, and from other government reports. As far as could be ascertained, the correct way of spelling the name follows the name as spelled in the census, in parenthesis, followed by the English equivalent of the name, so far as could be obtained. The writer's principal informants in getting the words correctly spelled and in obtaining their English equivalents were, Mrs. Elsie Cohoe Pawwnnee, John Murray, Don Travis, Oran Curray, and Cecil Calvert, the latter being a white man who has lived most of his life with or among the Uintah and Ouray Indians. |
