Show - 2 - The boiler was recommissioned in October 1978. In the past 6 months detailed measurements on the boiler performance have been carried out to enable a comprehensive analysis of the suitability of this firing technique for boiler operation and NO control. The paper covers both, the prototype test burner results and data on the operating experience of the modified 700 MW boiler 1. Introduction The forthcoming regulation on NO -emission from power station boilers in germany forces power station designers to develop new technologies which enable the operation of the boilers in compliance with the expected legislation. As has been proven in other countries, the most cost effective way for NO emission control is the optimization of the combustion equipment towards low NO -formation. Development programs undertaken in various countries have shown that it is possible to reduce the NO -emission sub- ^ x stantially by optimization of conventional burner parameters at most gas and some oil- and coal fired systems. It has also been shown that the reduction of NO -emission from x high intensity heavy fuel oil and pulverized coal flames requires the introduction of unconventional combustion systems, such as staged combustion. Based upon a literature review a development program for a low NO -pulverized coal burner was carried out in 1978, which was financially assisted by the German ministry of Research and Technology. 9-2 |
