Show L Church Office Building :Sat Hing 50 E. No±th Temple St. Salt Lake City, 84150 Utah De2X Sir, So onths ago I read a book by Apostle Mark E. Peterson entitled Adam, Who is He? On pe 16 of his book Mr. Peterson's research tells the reader that Brigham Young had been icuoted on April 9 1852 and that Elder Charles C. Rich was present and wrote. either :1..."1 his diary or his own copy of the J .O.D. "the correction. Mr. Peterson says that the in the hands of the church historian." "s Lgned statement is I was wondering if you would photocopy of that signed statement made qy C.C. Rich? You are un the truth is that I' in just I am asking for such a favor. Well. why wondering doubtedly a bit of a quandry at the present time concerning the accuracy of some of Mr. Peterson's be so kind to send me a statcents in his book. Your assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated in helping me clear that qucndry up. For example: the reason I nould like a photocopy of C.C. Rich's statement i3 t new evidence has come to me that shows the possibility that C.C. Rich may not L -'even have been IN Salt Lake at the time that Brigham Young gave the address of April 9 1852. Tha t evidence is found in a book by Leonard Arrington .enti t.Led Charles C. Rich, l:orr:on General and tlestern Fronteersman. On page 173 Arrington informs us that C.C. Rich .Lef t San Bernardino for Salt Lake on I1arch 24. On the same page Arrington informs us that.' the quickest trip that could be made in those days between those two cities could only be , nade in 2-2 days. Simple arithmetic tells us that if C.C. Rich left San Bernardino for Salt Lake on Harch 24, he could NOT have arrived at Salt Lake before April 13 or 14 at the earliest, a full four days AFTER Young gave the address that Mr. Peterson mentions. Of course you can that if photocopied proof of Rich's presence in Salt Lake Peterson's research tlOuld of course, be vindicated and Mr. Arring clearly see ccul.d be obtained. Itt. ton's re::;:search would be protrved faulty • • appreciate the fact that my question .is an honest one will be able to satisfy my curibsity over this issue. and I am equally sure that you Th&k you very much for your help. The $3.00 enclosed should be more than enough to cover I'n . sure paper and as a historian, you can mailing cost. Th}O,/?& _ =vt - _/ |
