Show CH 116 i8.To make olear wbat President Young had in mind, I w1ll give this Ulustratlon. The army 1s composed of a grest nW'lber of privates and officers of various ranks. The private in the army is, of course, under the captain, and the captain 18 under the colonel who receives instructicna from his superior officers. In other words the only person with whom the pr1vate has to do is h1a ca.ptain. This Ulustratlon _y see. rather crude, but I think it v1ll convey the thought. 19.Pres1dent Br1gha.ll Young 'WaS thoroughly acquainted with the doctrine of the Church. He studied the Doctrine and Cove:o.a.nts and mny times quoted fro. it the particular passages concerning the reatlonship of Ada.m to Jesus Christ. 20.He knew perfectly that Ada!I 168 subordinate and obedient to Jesus Christ. He knew perfectly that AdaJl bad been placed at the head of the hu.man fa.mily by commandment of the Fa.ther, and this doctrine he taught during the many years of his !dn1stry. 21.Vhen be said Adam laS the only god. with whom we have to do, he evident 11' had in mind this passage g1ven by revelation through Joseph SIdth I 22. "That you my come up unto the crown prepared for you, and be tade rulers over mny kingdoms, saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Zion (i.e. Jesus Christ), who hath establisbed the foundations of Ada.m-ond1-Ahman, Who hath appointed Michael (Adam) your prince, and established his feet, and set hill upon high, and given him the keys of salvation under the counsel and direction of the Holy One, wo is wi thout beginning of days • and end of life." Holds the of Salvation Under Christ. • •• 2).Ada.1l Xeys 24.I:f the keys of salvation have been committed to the hands of AdalI.,Wl the direction of Jesus Christ, then 1s there anything out of place for Prssldent 13righa.m Young to declare that it is Adall with whom we have to do? 25.And yet here 1s the acknowledgement of the superior!ty of Jesus Christ This being true, then the hunan family 1s immediately subject to Ada.m and. he to the Redeemer of the world. 26.Agaln, to illustrate this points In the Church we have a presiding officer whom we call the bishop. He has full charge in the la:rd over which he presides. This bishop is subject to the direction of the stake president, and, he in turn to the Presidency of the Church. The only one, in the same sense, with whom the members have to do is the bishop, but he 1s not the superior officer by any means •••• V. God: First of the Human Family. Let me comment first upon the expres aion trt God 1s the "first of the human family." 28. This same doctrine JBS taught by J cseph Sm!th. 29.It is a fundamental doctrine of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. According to the teachings of Joseph Smith, he beheld. the Father and the Son in glorious vision, and he taught that. each bad a body of flesh and bones. JO.Hs baa expressed it in these words:'he Father has a of flesh and bones as same race body t tangible as man S I the Son also J but the HoI,. Ghost has not a body of nesh and bones, but 18 a personage of Spirit. Were it not so,the Holy Ghost could not d well in us." 31.He also taught that, I1te.ra.lly, God 1s our Father; that men are of the - the race called humans; and that Cod J the Progend, tor, or Creator, is the Father of the human race. 32. "In the image of his own body, male and female, created he theIl, and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were c:reat ed. and became 117ing souls in the land upon the footstool of God.· J.lt 1s a doctrine common to the Latter-day Saints, that God, the Great oh1m, 1s the First, or Creator, of the human family. |
