Show OUR SPEAKERS BUREAU IS AVAILABLE The Speakers Bureau is in action informing the public and telling of our good works. A pamphlet designed by Joan Welsh was printed and mailed to two hundre<l organizations la.st summer. This pamphlE;lt describes the subjects our leei.guers can speak about and publiciz es our non parti~an policy. The following Leaguers have volunte ered their time to serve a s a corps of speakers. They are: Jo Brandt, Helene Cartwright, Geraldine Chris+,ensen, Mary Jane Due, Lajette Fenton, Amelia Fr~mke, Doris Glover, Suzanna !"'Jae Grua, DeAnne Hanson, Margaret King, Joann Klint, · J ean Neil sen·, . Nary Olsen, Zona Power, Shari Sowards, Donna Vogel, Barbara Hartmann, Jean Torosian, Tricia Swift, Beverlli Dusserre, Gwen Hovey, Pat Clark, and Charlotte Newman·. Barbara Hartmann did s beautiful job organizing a Speakers Workshop which was concerned with speech construction and tailoring speeches to different audience types. Problems were discuss ed; remeciies were provided for such things as a noisy dinner meeting and catering to the male ego. The Workshop ·was so well organized and full of useful information we 0 re thinking of having it as a Unit meeting next year. We talk about the need to reach the community with our study information. We talk about action. One way is a year around Speakers Burw.iu .. and at lAst we have it Water resources, Air Folluti0n, State Government, Human Resources, Foreign Policy, State Election Laws, Choosing th e President, the Electoral Colle~e, Loc::.1 1 Government Modernization 0.nd Innovations in Education, complete our subject roster. Ann 0°Connell and Lynda Fletcher serve as co-ordinators of the Bureau8 It is their job to fill requests for speaker s. They report that the job is tense at times with some requests coming with little advance notice. We credit them with the Bureauus smooth operation~ To date we have received eight requests for speakers from a variety of organizations. The Murray Junior Chamber of Commerce - Air Pollution Jean Torosian; Optimist Club - \'llater Resources - Doris Gl·over; D,,A.R~Constitutional Revision - Jean Nielsen; Democratic Womengs Club - Moderator for Candidtates Meeting - Geraldine Christensen; Tri-El - Constitutional Revision - Jean Nielsen; Clean Air Panel - Jean Torosian, Beverlli Dusserre, Annie Fe:w Buehl, and Lois Frederick. Many groups have called to express an interest. The Nli.i-i.CP will be scheduling Shari S.owards to speak about Red China, and the Junior League has asked for speakers during January and February of 1970. We anticipate further requests. 111Jith this possibility in mind, the Speakers Bureau is seeking enthusiastic ladies for our sneakers corps.
